Rating Increases

How to Increase Your VA Disability Rating

Many Kewanee & Geneseo-area veterans were rated years ago and never revisited it. There are four common paths to a higher combined rating:

1. File for an increase on a worsened condition

If symptoms are worse than your current rating describes, file for an increase with recent medical evidence. The VA rates on current severity, so recent treatment records and a clear description of flare-ups matter.

2. Claim secondary conditions

A service-connected condition can cause others: sleep apnea or depression secondary to PTSD, radiculopathy secondary to a back injury, knee or hip problems from an altered gait. Each can be rated separately.

3. Look for conditions you never claimed, and TDIU

Tinnitus, PACT Act presumptives and old injuries are commonly missed. If service-connected conditions keep you from holding steady work, Individual Unemployability (TDIU) can pay at the 100% rate.

4. Respond fast if the VA proposes a reduction

If you get a notice that the VA plans to reduce your rating, you generally have 60 days to send evidence, and requesting a hearing within 30 days keeps your payments unchanged until it's held.

FAQ

Kewanee & Geneseo VA Disability Questions

Is there a VA clinic in Kewanee or Geneseo?

No. Geneseo veterans are closest to the Quad Cities VA Clinic in Davenport, Iowa, and Kewanee veterans are closest to the Galesburg VA Clinic. Both belong to VA Iowa City Health Care.

Can I use the Peoria clinic instead?

Possibly. The Peoria clinic is part of VA Illiana Health Care, a different system, so ask VA how your care is assigned before planning on it.

Will I have to drive to Iowa City for my C&P exam?

Not necessarily. Many exams go to VA-contracted examiners, to a closer clinic, or to telehealth. Your appointment letter states the location.

Is free claim help available in Henry County?

Yes. IDVA Veteran Service Officers and accredited VSOs like the American Legion, DAV and VFW prepare claims free, and the county’s Veterans Assistance Commission offers emergency aid.

Are you affiliated with the VA?

No. Mission Ready Claims is privately owned and has no connection to, or endorsement from, the Department of Veterans Affairs or any government body. Henry County veterans work with us remotely.
